Welcome to Orfela. We make books for people who would rather build the thing than keep meaning to.

We are a small team who kept running into the same problem: people who knew they were exposed the next time the power went out or the grocery bill jumped, wanted to do something about it, and did not know what to build first. Not because they lacked the skills. Because nobody had put the projects in order, with the cost and the parts list, on paper.

So we built a manual that does exactly that. Seventy projects across water, power, food, heat, security and remedies, each one opening with what it costs, how hard it is and how long it takes, followed by a parts list and where to buy it.

Built before it was printed

Every project in the book was built and photographed, step by step, before it went to print. If a build did not work the way the page said, the page changed.

It is a full-color paperback in a size that props open on a workbench, printed to be used with wet hands for twenty years. We check every order before it leaves us, and we read every message our readers send. The book gets better because of them.

The people we made it for

Our readers are the ones with a garage full of tools and nothing built for an outage yet. The ones who lost a freezer full of food last winter and said never again. The ones who just bought a few acres and do not know what to do first. Grandparents who would rather show the grandkids how than tell them. People who are not preparing for the end of the world, just for the next time the power is out for four days.

None of them call themselves anything in particular. They just want to be the one in the house who knows what to do.

How we sell it

One price, shown up front, with shipping included. Tracked delivery on every order. An email address a person reads, usually the same day. Thirty days to decide. No countdown timers, and no video you have to sit through to find out what it costs.

We hope this book gives you what it was always meant to give you: a Saturday with a plan, and a house that is a little less dependent on everything going right.
